What exactly is malware?

Malware, or Malicious Software, is software that is specifically designed to disrupt, damage, or gain unauthorized access to a computer system. Malware is often designed for criminal purposes. There are many kinds of malware such as Viruses, Trojans, and Worms. However, the latest forms of malware which are becoming more concerning are Ransomware and Spyware.

Ransomware

Ransomware is a form of Malware. It is a program which you can obtain from an infected email attachment, website, or even Facebook messages. Ransomware threatens to publish your data publicly, or encrypts your data on the computer thus locking you out of your information until a ransom is paid. These ransoms are usually requested in the form of Bitcoins, a digital cryptocurrency which cannot be tracked or traced.

Spyware

Spyware is another form of Malware. Just like ransomware, spyware can be obtained through infected email attachments, websites, or even Facebook messages. Spyware runs in the background of your computer, collecting various information, such as keystrokes you make on your keyboard when entering passwords or credit card information.
